Embracing Adversities of Tuberculosis With Courage: Then and Now
A Dinner
/Program is scheduled for August 3, 2013 at the Cresson American Legion to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of
the formal opening of Pennsylvania State Sanatorium for Treatment of Tuberculosis at Cresson (“The San”).
The theme of the event is,
Embracing Adversities of Tuberculosis With Courage: Then and Now. This year’s event will explore
the significant contributions people and organizations made that lead to control of tuberculosis and the improvement of public
health. In 1913, as it is today, advances in education, health practices, diagnosis and treatments are crucial for maintaining
health and wellness.
Speakers for the program include Dave Huber, Cambria County Historical Society, Dr. Anil Ojah, researcher
and assistant professor University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, and a representative from Pennsylvania
Department of Health. Area health providers, significant others and the general public are encouraged to
attend the commemorative event.

SPECIAL NOTE
Those who have already registered for the dinner
program and those who do so on or before July 27 will be provided an opportunity to visit Grace Chapel on the grounds of the
former Cresson Prison/Sanatorium site the morning of August 3. Details involving the visit will be emailed
or phoned after July 27 when reservations are closed.
Cars will assemble at the American Legion at 9:30 am and
then caravan to the san parking lot to start the tour at 10 am. No bus transportation will be provided.
