our article concerning the TB Sanitarium in the Altoona Mirror on 4/18/2010 is terrific.  My Mother, Lucy L. Knepp, spent time there from 1954 to 1957.  She just passed away last year, 6/10/2009, at 84 years of age.  It would have been good to know of this site before she passed and was still coherent.  I remember some pictures that I will pursue in my family, and will send them your way.  You haven't heard the last from me; just let me get my p's and q's in order. Thanks for your efforts.                                                                                                                                                Dean Knepp

Chuck Felton:  After sending me the above email, Dean and his family did some digging into his mom’s time at the san and uncovered some interesting info.  His sister ran across an album with photos with names taken at the san, but they were not sure about the time frame.  Since there are no photos of family members in this album, they thought there was even a possibility that these pictures were taken in the 1940-45 era before their mom was married in 1945.   After talking with an aunt, they discovered that their mom was in Cresson San twice, once in the mid 1940’s and again in the mid 1950’s.  It also seems their family had an uncle who died at Cresson in the 1940's.  I was subsequently sent a CD with numerous photos of patients and staff from the 1940’s.   The photos are presented below and organized by subject.  Lucy appears in only one photo, shown below.
